You will need a serious internet business if you intend to make internet marketing your sole or main source of income. If you have recently been made redundant or have retired on insufficient money to meet your needs, then building a serious online business will be at the top of your agenda.

The problem that most newcomers to making money online is that they don't know where to start: in other words they are like the rest of us, some of us successful and others not. There are many roads you can take, each with many rocky bridges to cross, and you have to choose from them because you will fail if you don't focus on one. There are several reasons why over 95% fail, and here are the main ones:

1. Lack of Focus
   You must focus on one source of income until it is working. Then try another. The major reason for failure is getting stuck through flitting from one program to another, without spending enough time to succeed at any. Choose one serious internet business to work on until you succeed, to the exclusion of everything else. You can move on once that is making money and running itself.
2. Information Overload
   You buy too many eBooks and read about too many ways of making money online, and get completely bogged down with information. The problem is that a technique suitable for one technique could be detrimental to another, but you have so much information that you don't know which is which and never really get started.
3. Fail to Get Started
   Most people never get started for the two reasons above, and also because they are waiting for 'the right time'. The right time is now: if you for your website or even your idea to be perfect you will fail - and most do. Act now. The motto of most internet marketers is READY - FIRE - AIM. Get prepared, get started an d then work on improving and even perfecting your business.

   I once read a magazine that predicted that a toy called Roboraptor would be massively popular at Christmas so I had the idea to buy some up. I bought 40 of them for about $100 each, then waited until the shops sold out. I put them on eBay and sold them for over $200 each. Profiteering? Yes! Profit-making? Also yes - but I acted immediately and didn't wait till they were sold out.

4. Failure to Persevere
   If you want a serious internet business then you must persevere. I can guarantee that a day will come when you feel like giving up due to a lack of success. You will feel like trying something else, but don't! We have all felt like that on occasion - more than once in my case, but don't give in. Persevere and you will be successful.

If you can avoid these four pitfalls then you can achieve your dream of a serious internet business you can run from home. Since the secret to internet riches is duplication, do it again, and again, and again. Multiple websites bring multiple incomes - I have over 25 websites and add a new one each month.

Most people have something they are good at. In many cases that skill or knowledge is marketable online. Perhaps you are a nurse and can design a website dealing with childhood diseases, or are god at perch fishing, conjuring or quilting, and sell your skills online by writing an eBook or providing an information website. Maybe you have something you can sell, such as renewable fuel for wood burning stoves or second hand car parts.

3. Google Adsense

Some people make a serious internet business out of Google Adsense. That is a means of allowing Google to place adverts on your website, and make money every time somebody clicks on one. This is the one money-making technique that you can work on alongside other methods, as long as they involve you having your own website.
